Scientists today noted impressive new proof that green, or unroasted, espresso beans may create a large decrease in body weight in a somewhat short amount of time.

In the research, Joe Vinson's team described how an organization of overweight or obese individuals who consumed several milligrams of ground green coffee beans daily lost about 10 percent of their weight.

"Based on our results, using multiple tablets of green coffee extract a day - while eating a low-fat, healthy diet and exercising regularly - seems to be a safe, effective, inexpensive method to lose weight," said Vinson, who is with the University of Scranton.

The research involved 16 over weight or obese people aged 22-26 years who got capsules of the extract or capsules containing a placebo, a sedentary formula, for a total of 22 days. Those participating in the experiment alternated between a low dose and a higher dose of the extract. The reduced dose consisted of 700mg of the espresso extract, and the high dose was 1,050mg. It absolutely was an alleged "crossover" study in which people moved through the placebo and both doses, each for six weeks. Such studies have users act as their own "control," thus increasing the chances of getting an accurate result.

All of the participants were monitored for his or her overall diet (calories, food consumed, etc.) and exercise on the study period. Fats, carbs, and "their calories and protein intake did not change during the research, nor did their exercise program change," Vinson said.

Most diet-testers dropped typically 7 pounds during the 22 days of the study. The experiment led to an average decrease of 16 percent of body fat. Vinson noted that weight loss could have been notably faster, except that members received the placebo and the lower dose of green coffee extract for most of the study period.
